Postgraduate Studies in Economic Diplomacy

Why study?

Graduates will be equipped to represent and defend country’s economic and commercial interests and to detect business opportunities and lobby at the international level.
Graduates» command of the tools used in economic diplomacy will help them develop comprehensive market analyses, negotiate international agreements and operate successfully in the international environment.

Postgraduate Studies in Economic Diplomacy are addressed, among others, to:

individuals interested in the economic and commercial diplomacy career path,
employees of institutions with broad international economic relations,
individuals focused on a career in international organizations,
employees of companies aimed at establishing and deepening international cooperation,
employees of transnational corporations,
NGO representatives.

Ambassador ad personam. Graduate of University of Warsaw Law Faculty (1963) and postgraduate studies in foreign service at the Polish Institute of International Affairs (1984). In his long diplomatic career held many positions (Vice Director, Department Director, General Director) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dealing with relations with Africa, the Middle East and Asia. From 1994 to 1997 was Head of the Diplomatic Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized official and unofficial visits for Presidents Lech Wałęsa and Aleksander Kwaśniewski.

Many positions abroad including First Secretary of the Embassy in Iran (1977–1981), Ambassador to Pakistan (1984–1989), Head of United States Interests Section (USIS) in Iraq (1991–1994), Ambassador to Kingdom of Belgium and Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (1997–2002), and also to Isreal (2003–2006).Lecturing on the diplomatic and consular law, diplomatic protocol,Middle East relations i.a. at National School of Public Administration; Diplomatic Academy of Polish Institute of International Relations, University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań, European Academy of Diplomacy, Postgraduate Studies of Foreign Service of SGH (Warsaw School of Economics) .Publications: 1. Prof. dr hab. Adam Budnikowski

Professor of Economics, specialist and author of numerous works on international economics and environmental policy. Since 1974, he has been an employee of the Warsaw School of Economics, where he gives lectures on international economics, which are very popular with students.

In 1985-1986, he was a Fulbright scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and in 1990-1991 he was a lecturer at the J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. From 2005 to 2012, he was rector of the Warsaw School of Economics. He is currently a professor at the Institute of International Economics at the Warsaw School of Economics. For several years, he has also taught at leading European management schools affiliated to the Community of European Management Schools (CEMS). His main areas of academic interest are related to international issues: among others, international economic relations (with a focus on trade policy and international finance), transition in Central and Eastern Europe and environmental policy.

Prof. dr hab. Elżbieta Kawecka-Wyrzykowska

Professor at the Warsaw School of Economics. She works at the Department of Integration and European Law. She graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Trade at the Main School of Planning and Statistics (now the Warsaw School of Economics). She conducts research on, among others, the following EU policies and their relevance to Poland: agricultural, trade, cohesion, monetary; budgetary, as well as the development of integration processes in the EU and around the world and the GATT/WTO international trade policy.

She is the author of several books and some 250 articles and chapters in books, as well as expert reports for the OECD and WTO on international trade policy. She is a lecturer on various aspects of European economic integration. She has lectured at universities in Ohio (USA), Kyoto (Japan), Xi’an (China), among others. From 2002 to 2005, she was part of the team of economic advisors to the President of Poland. She participated in the GATT Uruguay Round negotiations (1987–1991) as a Representative of the Government of Poland. She was an expert of the Senate of the Republic of Poland on the ratification of the Europe Agreement establishing Poland’s association with the European Communities (1992).

Arkadiusz Kowalski Ph.D., Professor SGH

Head of the Research Department of East Asian Economies and Deputy Director of the Institute of World Economy at the Warsaw School of Economics. He completed his second degree (Master of Science) at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Southampton in England, winning a competition organized by the Regional Science Association International British and Irish Section for the best thesis.

International experience also includes, among others, several months of research stays at the University of Glasgow (2005–2006), the University of Richmond, USA (2011–2012) and Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok (2016–2017) and membership in the Microeconomics of Competitiveness (MOC) Network, coordinated by Harvard Business School, USA. His research interests include the areas of international competitiveness, innovation, technology transfer, clusters, innovation systems and innovation policy. He is the author of more than eighty scientific publications and has participated as a manager or co-principal investigator in various national and international research projects, including programs: Horizon 2020, Erasmus „Leonardo da Vinci-Transfer of Innovation”, ERASMUS+ Capacity-Building projects in the field of Higher Education (E+CBHE) and OPUS. He has also been an expert in work for the European Commission, government administrations and companies.

Elżbieta Wąsowicz-Zaborek, Ph.D.

Born in Szczecin, she graduated from the University of Szczecin with a degree in Management and Marketing. Since 2016, assistant professor at the Institute of International Management and Marketing and then at the Department of International Business at the Warsaw School of Economics. Doctor of Economics – she obtained the title at the Poznań University of Economics (dissertation entitled „Determinants of the Quality of the Tourism Product”).

For nearly 25 years a research and teaching employee at universities. Her scientific interests focus mainly on the issues of territorial development and promotion, as well as economics and marketing of services, especially tourism services. In 2000–2007, she actively participated in the creation of regional and local structures of tourism promotion and management in Poland, mainly in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. From 2008 to 2015 Vice President of the Polish Tourist Organization responsible mainly for the development of the Polish Tourist Information System, Regional Cooperation and implementation of promotional activities both at home and abroad. From 2008–2016 Member of the Supervisory Board of the Szczecin and Swinoujscie Sea Ports Authority. She has extensive experience as an author, manager and implementer of projects financed by European Union funds. Author and co-author of numerous scientific publications and studies, including: „Code of Good Practices for the System of Management and Promotion of Tourism in Poland”, „Marketing Strategy of Poland in the Tourism Sector 2008–2015”, „Diagnosis of the State of Tourism Development in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship”, „Framework Program for Tourism Development in the Parsęta River Basin”, guidebook „How to develop local tourism”.

Małgorzata Lewandowska, Ph.D., Professor SGH

Associate Professor of SGH Warsaw School of Economics, Collegium of World Economy, Department of International Management, holds a Habilitation in Management, a Ph.D. in Economics and an Mater of Business Administration (MBA) from the Universite du Quebec a Montreal, Canada.

Author and co-author of books, papers and chapters on management in international business, international cooperation of enterprises, business models of firms, innovation policy. The primary areas of research are innovation determinants and strategies, open innovation, innovation policy, and eco-innovation. Prof Lewandowska is a member international associations such as the Academy of International Business (AIB) and the European International Business Academy (EIBA).

Lidia Danik, Ph.D., Professor SGH

Graduate of the Warsaw School of Economics. Two-time DAAD scholarship holder. Employee of the Department of International Marketing. Specialist in inter-organizational cooperation, internationalization of enterprises, cultural determinants of international business, marketing and international marketing.

Author of the book „The influence of culture on the quality of relationships in international business cooperation” and dozens of publications in domestic and foreign scientific journals. Lecturer on subjects such as marketing, marketing in the institutional market, cultural determinants of international business, international business transactions and internationalization of the enterprise. She is a member of EIBA and AIB. Her previous professional experience is related to the insurance and shipping industry.

Honorata Nyga-Łukaszewska, Ph.D.

Economist, assistant professor at the Institute of International Economics, College of World Economy, Warsaw School of Economics. Graduate of the Warsaw School of Economics. Reviewer of international and domestic scientific journals. Author of dozens of scientific articles related to energy security. She works in energy security, energy policy, natural gas market, economic diplomacy and international economics.

Bartosz Targański, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor at the Chair of International Business at the Warsaw School of Economics, Doctor of Economics (degree obtained with honours), legal adviser with many years of experience, in particular in competition and consumer protection law. Former employee of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.

Author and co-author of numerous scientific publications, including Commentary to the Law on Competition and Consumer Protection. At the Warsaw School of Economics, he teaches, among others, Marketing Law in the European Union and International Trade Law.

Maciej Cygler, Ph.D.

Economist, climate policy analyst, lecturer at the Institute of International Economics, SGH Warsaw School of Economics and chief expert at the Centre for Climate and Energy Analyses / National Centre for Emissions Management (CAKE/KOBiZE). His expertise includes environmental and resource economics, climate policy examination and development, cost-benefit analysis and sustainable development.

Practitioner involved in the EU climate policy impact assessment to support decisionmaking process of administration and stakeholders. He participated in UN climate conferences, most recently COP28.

Bożena Leven, Ph.D., Professor of Economics, The College of New Jersey, School of Business

Graduated from the Central School of Planning and Statistics, Warsaw, Poland with an M.A. in Economics (specializing in International Trade) and was awarded a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University. Her primary areas of expertise include International Economics and Economics of Development.

She has interspersed her academic duties with consulting at the Ford Foundation, the International Affairs Division at the United Nations, the World Bank, and the East European Program at the William Davidson Institute of the University of Michigan. Her publications and research focus on two areas: financial restructuring and the welfare effects of macroeconomic reforms in Eastern and Central Europe. She has served as an Interim Dean of the School of Business at the College of New Jersey, USA, Chair of Economics Department, Visiting Professor of International Economics at the Warsaw School of Economics (from which she received habilitation), and the Executive Director of the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America in New York.

Piotr Hajdecki

Economist and lawyer. He holds an executive MBA. He also completed a degree in digital transformation. He has nearly 20 years of experience in international economic cooperation, gained as a trade diplomat, executive director of a bilateral chamber of commerce, international sales manager and consultant for a Big Four consulting firm.

He is currently employed as a senior advisor at Business Finland, and socially serves as a board member of the Finnish Trade Guild, the Finnish national section of the Scandinavian-Polish Chamber of Commerce. Piotr Hajdecki is the author of numerous articles on international cooperation, diplomacy, finance and management. He developed his skills during courses in many countries of the world: the UK, Germany, China, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic and Spain.

Dariusz Markiewicz

Experienced manager specializing in strategy and business consulting and in project management for global companies using classic/waterfall and agile/iterative approach. Acquired diverse, international experience while managing projects in Poland, Japan, United States, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Great Britain, Ireland, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Austria.

Additionally delivered multiple global projects while managing international, geographically dispersed teams. Type of projects: business strategy development, capital projects (including construction of new production facilities), large scale IT transformation and new technology implementation, Research and Development and innovation management, business process management, change and communication management, IPO, M&A and Post-Merger Integration, cost cutting and HR reorganization. Education and professional certificates: Master of Science degree from Inter-faculty Individual Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences at University of Warsaw; Certified member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA); Project Management Professional (PMP) – certified by Project Management Institute; Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP) – certified by Project Management Institute; Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) – certified by Scrum.org; Professional Scrum Master II (PSM II) – certified by Scrum.org

Małgorzata Mika-Bryska

Graduate of the Central School of Planning and Statistics (now the Warsaw School of Economics) in Warsaw, Faculty of Foreign Trade. From 1993 to 2016, director or deputy director of departments at the Ministry of Economy/Energy, including Counsellor-Minister and Head of the Economic and Trade Department at the Permanent Representation of Poland to the European Union from 2003 to 2012.

During her time in Brussels, she also served as Attache for Energy and Attache for the Internal Market. From 2016 to 2021, she was Director of Regulatory Affairs and Public Relations at Veolia Energia Poland.

Katarzyna Zimińska

.Communications and marketing manager with nearly 15 years of international experience. She studied at UW, SGH and gained extensive knowledge working as a journalist, content, PR and marketing expert. Her primary areas of expertise include public speaking, self-image building, corporate communication and digital marketing.

She is an experienced coach in public speaking, working with a camera, speech building - she trains board members and business leaders in areas including: banking, HR and diplomacy. She is currently employed as a Head of Marketing and Communication at The Adecco Group. At the Warsaw School of Economics, she teaches Public Speaking.
